Birthday fun and good news

So my birthday was Saturday. It was pretty fun for the most part. We started the day by making Strawberry Cheesecake muffins. Funny side story... when my mom sends us packages she fills them with random stuff because it is a flat rate and the last package had strawberry cheesecake muffin mix, so thanks Mom for my birthday breakfast. But anyways, after that we went to the last half of our childbirth class at the hospital. We learned about unexpected things (like forceps and that stuff) and postpartum and newborn care and a bit about breastfeeding. We also did some breathing exercises with a clothes pin clipped to my ear for the duration of a contraction. That was interesting. Then we finally got to tour the hospital. It is nice. The rooms are fairly large with WiFi and flat screens with DVD players and a couch and, if I get lucky and one is available, a jetted tub!! There are hospitality rooms for husbands and they mentioned flavored ice chips for me. The baby stays with me as long as I want him there unless he has a problem and they have a breastfeeding thing I can go to while I'm there they say. I'm getting pretty excited, but I am also nervous. I wish Mom could be there, but what can you do?

We also went to lunch at Macaroni Grill for my birthday and it was yummy, but we got full too fast. We really should start sharing meals at restaurants. Then later Tom's mom came over for ice cream cake and we watched Twilight because she had never seen it. The day went downhill from there. My students online were just AWFUL! I'm not sure how I managed, but I finished my 5 hr shift....

As for the rest of the good news.... our renter asked us today if we wanted to renew his lease when it ends. That was such a relief because it ends in May (some month baby is due) and I was afraid of having to find someone new and that we may even get stuck with no renter for awhile which would be hard, especially considering my income drops by quite a bit over the summer. Anyways, so that was exciting news for us! Plus it means we don't have to return his deposit yet. We may make a few minor improvements for him resigning though. We will be putting blinds up in his living room and maybe adding a few shelves to the kitchen, but overall.YAY!!!

Oh yeah, other news....our house is finally clean!!! We still haven't finished the stairs and finishing touches, or started on the baby's room for that matter, but the other areas are all clean and organized. Now it is time for me to clear out the pretty bookshelf and organize papers into the office so we can progress on the unpacking of our remaining boxes. Maybe I will post pictures tonight....

  1. Woohoo! Exciting stuff--I can't believe that you are close enough to having this baby that you are touring the hospital, learning about flavored ice chips, etc. Crazy! Glad you had a fun birthday--before the students came along anyway. My students are generally nice, but teaching them in person is much different than interacting semi-anonymously on the internet.

I'm glad I get to come for the whole summer and am not glad I won't be there in time for the birth...you can always hold it! :) I know you feel releived about your renter...me too! I'm getting excired to be a Grandma...just don't realy want to lool like one...oh well, too late.
